Koh Tao for Families

Updated: Jan 9, 2020

"Is Koh Tao good for families?" and "what activities are there for children on Koh Tao?" These are two of the most common questions we receive from families making inquiries to book at our beachfront resort on Koh Tao. The easy answer is yes, Koh Tao is great for families, and there is plenty to do for children! But of course, there is more to it than that, and as a parent, it is always important to do your research ahead of time to ensure your stay is fun, hassle-free and enjoyed by all of the family. At Montra, we believe we go the extra mile to provide the perfect family holiday on Koh Tao at our beachfront hotel.

Why our Koh Tao Beachfront Accommodation is Perfect for Families?

We have a couple of great family-friendly accommodation options at our beachfront resort on Koh Tao. Firstly, you could choose a family suite in the main beachfront hotel. Koh Tao visitors love our 2 bedroom set up, with an elegantly furnished living room separating the two rooms for maximum comfort – and also some quality peace and quiet time for mum and dad! The second option is one of our Koh Tao pool villas. These spacious self-contained units are large enough to accommodate parents and a younger child in the main bedroom, and all of our Koh Tao pool villas have shared access to an additional swimming pool.

The location of our resort is also family-friendly. Koh Tao is easy to explore from our beachfront location, nestled in a quiet area with easy access to the main pier, yet just a short walk from a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and other entertainment. Mae Haad can be reached by beach or path, and Sairee by the cobbled walking street. There are no noisy bars or clubs in the neighborhood, and street lighting is to a high standard.

What Family Friendly Services does our Resort Offer?

We are, without a doubt, one of the most family-friendly resorts on Koh Tao. Aside from our family-friendly Koh Tao rooms and villas, our beachfront resort offers a range of bonus services and facilities for families with children:

  • We are proud to have one of the best swimming pools on Koh Tao. In fact, our main pool is the largest infinity pool on Koh Tao, with three levels and a Jacuzzi. So you can be assured lots of space for the kids to splash around, and there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for shade. Need some light refreshments or nibbles while soaking up the rays on Koh Tao’s largest pool terrace? No problem, simply order from the in-pool bar!

  • Everyone loves a beach day on Koh Tao! Beachfront resorts like ours often have a patch of golden sand for their guests to enjoy, but ours is one of the only ones with a safe, sectioned off swimming area. So your little ones can enjoy their time in the water safe in the knowledge there will be no boat traffic or other dangers.

  • As you’d expect from any luxury hotel on Koh Tao, we have a fully stocked beachfront bar and restaurant. So you can simply relax, knowing that everything you need for a chilled-out pool/beach day is all under one roof for your convenience.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving for Children on Koh Tao

Snorkeling and diving are the two top activities on Koh Tao. PADI courses, fun diving trips, and snorkel tours are our guests’ most popular choices for holiday adventures. Did you know that children as young as 10 can try diving, and they can get their PADI Open Water on Koh Tao from 10 years upwards? Our Koh Tao scuba courses for children are run through our in-house PADI 5 star award-winning dive center, so you are guaranteed all of the professionalism and attention to detail you’d expect when you stay at our luxury Koh Tao hotel. Whether you want your children to try diving, get certified or go fun diving on Koh Tao, PADI courses and PADI dive centers are the most popular choice by consumers all around the world due to their high standards when it comes to safety, skills, and supervision. For those looking to learn to dive, Koh Tao Open Water courses are incredibly popular, and even kids who have dived in other locations on previous holidays are never disappointed by fun diving. Koh Tao dive sites are shallow and brimming with vibrant coral reefs and colorful tropical fish. So even for children who are too young, or don’t want to go scuba diving, there is plenty to keep them entertained on a snorkel trip.

Other Factors that make Koh Tao Safe and Fun for Children

For parents looking to take a Koh Tao scuba course themselves, professional western-grade childcare is available for children of all ages at a local daycare center. Your kids will come back happy and fulfilled, having had access to a large and well-equipped playground, and been involved in lots of exciting activities such as cooking, trampolining, art lessons or even an introductory Thai language session.

Other activities for children include swimming lessons, and there is even a trapeze school for those who are feeling adventurous (again, both through fully registered and western qualified providers). Kid’s gymnastics classes are also available, and there is a fun leisure park with children’s soft play area, mini-golf, and a cinema that can play movies for children on request.

There is an incredible variety when it comes to eating on Koh Tao. Thai and western plates are catered for, with a wide variety of international specialties available including Italian, Indian, Japanese, Mexican and Vegetarian/Vegan food. So even if your children are picky eaters, you’ll definitely be able to find some of their favorites within easy reach and at a reasonable price.

Feel free to contact us if you have any more questions or would like to make a booking for your family-friendly Koh Tao holiday. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are always on hand to help you plan and book your perfect stay!
